“Having grown up on Long Island, and knowing the quality of the NY area student-athletes, I felt it was important for us to be able to recruit that area of the country. I know that the high school athletics are strong – but more importantly, the high schools produce quality students,” stated Wentworth Athletic Director Tom Hughes. “We will be visiting high schools and meeting with coaches, athletic directors, and counselors over a three day period (June 13-15). While we continue to look for quality student athletes for the coming academic year (2012-13), we are looking to make long-term contacts for our Athletic programs.”
Several former Wentworth athletes live in the area, including James Howard, Dave Daniels, and Bob Sellers. Howard, Daniels, and Sellers were basketball teammates at Wentworth. Howard and Daniels finished their playing careers at New York Tech, while Sellers attended Yale.
Wentworth will host an “Open House” on Wednesday, June 13th from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Commack “Wingate by Wyndham Hotel”, which is located just off of the Long Island Expressway (exit 52E or 53W). The “Open House” is an informal way for coaches, counselors, parents, and student-athletes to find out more about Wentworth Military College and its growing athletic program.
