Drwal Become First Recipient of the Mario Bolanos College Soccer Award

The Bolanos College Soccer Award is given to the college soccer player who best exemplifies the ideals of the complete student-athlete:  Character, Class, Pride, Commitment, Loyalty, Courage and Determination.  The award recipient is not only one of the most talented soccer players on the team, but is one who strives to be a better person each and every day. The college soccer player at Wentworth Military College is expected to be one of the elite cadets on campus.

The Mario Bolanos College Soccer Award is named after Mario Bolanos of San Jose, Costa Rica. Mr. Bolanos attended Wentworth Military Academy and College from 1962-1966.

As a member of the college soccer team, Mr. Bolanos earned the respect of his teammates for his enthusiasm and skill level in their sport and that respect was rewarded by electing him as team captain of the college soccer team.

Arriving at the barracks after soccer practice, Mr. Bolanos was known to all as the player who could walk the entire length of the hall bouncing a soccer ball from knee to knee while strolling to his room, never touching the ball with his hands, which was very unique during that time period.
Mario Bolanos was the first college soccer player to be inducted into the Wentworth Athletic Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 2012, the first year that college soccer was reintroduced as a Wentworth college sport.

In the same year that Mr. Bolanos was inducted into the Wentworth Athletic Hall of Fame, Piotr Drwal of Poland was named as the very first recipient of the Mario Bolanos College Soccer Award.

As a captain of the men's college soccer team this year, Drwal went above and beyond in his efforts to become a better player and a better person. He is widely recognized around campus as one of the top cadets by the Wentworth Staff and Faculty.

Drwal is a great example of striving to "be better today than you were yesterday, be better tomorrow than you are today."

Drwal will return to play for the Red Dragons in the 2012 season.
