Wentworth Military College Soccer to Kick Off in Iowa

The 2012 will soon be underway! The Wentworth Military College soccer team will depart campus on Friday, August 24th for Ottumwa, Iowa to begin the 2012 season.

After a touch training camp for the Red Dragons, the team will play their first two matches on Saturday and Sunday. The Red Dragons will compete against Iowa Wesleyan University and Indian Hills Community College, respectively.

"This is a great way to begin the season," said Coach Kevin Farley, Head College Soccer Coach. "Having come to Wentworth from Iowa (last coaching position at Iowa Lakes Community College) and playing against a former conference opponent and a good coaching friend, we are excited about getting the season underway and see how we will compete."

The Red Dragons, once again, have a very young team. Of the eleven starters, 9 starters will be freshmen this year. The only returning starters from the 2011 season are Piotr Drwal and Jeriah Carroll, both elected team captains this season. In addition to Drwal and Carroll, the Red Dragons are expecting Nick Parker who has been participating in training for the U.S. Army and suffered the loss of his Grandmother, which has delayed his arrival.

The Wentworth college soccer team has welcomed many talented new athletes that are exciting to watch. One of our new soccer players who is definitely excited about the upcoming trip is Cadet Joshua Lundy who hales from Des Moines, Iowa. With an early trip home, we expect Lunday to play at his highest level to impress his family and friends.

The first home match for the Red Dragons won't be until Tuesday, September 4th at 3pm. At that point, the Red Dragons will have 4 matches under their belts.
